Sturgis Library, housed in the oldest library building in the United States, is a national treasure
Considering its rich history, it is not surprising that it is well-known for its genealogical resources and has become a “must see” destination for visitors to Cape Cod. Our brief was to revamp the library's website, maintaining a classic look that emphasizes the historical culture of the Sturgis Library. There were to be some major obstacles, especially considering that the previous version of the library's website was hosted on an outdated CMS program. The new website was not only meant to efficiently and accurately portray information to visitors, but also to be engaging as well as mobile friendly.
First, we turned to the staff of the Sturgis Library for their design preferences: With their selection of Puritan colors, we effectively developed a plan for the layout of the website that would achieve the mission of highlighting the library's history. After migrating all of the photos and information from the outdated CMS to the new website, and with the website now looking both classic and contemporary in design, we turned to functionality. Adding various WordPress plugins has allowed the library staff to add events to the site, and patrons can register for events, shop at the library bookstore, and make online donations.
“We are very pleased with the look and functionality of our new website. Working with Eric of Acorn Digital Marketing was a truly collaborative process. He understood our needs and created a clean, user friendly site which is easy for staff to update and edit using WordPress software. I like that there are many options for expanding our site, including adding an online shop, online program sign-up, and events registration. We’re grateful to Eric for giving us exactly what we were looking for in a website — and more!”
